New year, new technology.
While the start of a new year may mean personal resolutions to many people, it&rsquo;s also a time to think about other resolutions: Like the resolution on your TV, for example.
You don&rsquo;t want to spend most of 2019 living with technology from 1919, do you? Technology moves fast, and it only keeps moving faster, so we understand it can be hard to keep up with it all! That&rsquo;s what we are here for. 8K
While there are plenty of people that still haven&rsquo;t made the jump to 4K yet &ndash; and if you haven&rsquo;t, what are you waiting for?!? &ndash; TV companies are already setting their eyes on the next big thing: 8K.
Much like 4K was a resolution increase over 1080p, 8K is yet another resolution increase. What does it really mean for most people, though? Well, 4K content is just picking up steam, so it will be quite some time before 8K content starts getting released at a pace that makes upgrading worth it.

5G
2019 must be the year of numbers and letters, with both 8K and 5G getting a lot of attention. But much like 8K, 5G &ndash; the next step up in cellular communication -- &nbsp;isn&rsquo;t probably going to end up meaning a lot for most people this year.
We did start to see some 5G services roll out in 2018. 5G Verizon had some test markets for its 5G home service last year, but it looks like the company <a href="https://venturebeat.com/2019/01/29/verizon-5g-home-wont-expand-until-second-half-of-2019/">won&rsquo;t be further rolling out the service until later this year.</a> AT&amp;T has its own city list where it is already offering 5G &ndash; and it&rsquo;s adding more this year. But if you aren&rsquo;t in one of the test markets, what does 5G mean for you? Not much, at least for now.
And, for some of you on AT&amp;T thinking that you already have 5G because your phone has started displaying it, well, we have bad news for you: <a href="https://www.theverge.com/2019/1/7/18172355/att-fake-5g-logo-rolling-out-samsung-lg">It&rsquo;s fake.</a>

HDR
High dynamic range &ndash; or HDR &ndash; is a TV technology that lets you see more colors than ever before. While HDR isn&rsquo;t a &ldquo;new to 2019&rdquo; technology, it&rsquo;s one that is still getting adopted, and it&rsquo;s one that consumers can actually go out and experience now.
It&rsquo;s also one that is likely to get more and more popular as 2019 goes on. There are already places you can watch HDR content online &ndash; Netflix and Amazon Prime included &ndash; so check out those options or pick up some physical 4K Blu-rays if you want to experience your films and TV shows in more lifelike color than ever before.
