What's New On Streaming for May

by Ronald Elias

Solar Opposites (Hulu, May 8)

From the mind of Justin Roiland -- otherwise known as the co-creator of “Rick and Morty” -- comes another animated sci-fi romp. This time, a family of aliens arrive on Earth. And if we were to guess, chaos probably ensues.

Uncut Gems (Netflix, May 25)

The usually comedic Adam Sandler takes a turn for the serious in “Uncut Gems,” a diamond-in-the-rough film that ended up taking audiences and critics by storm.

As Howard Ratner, Sandler portrays a Jewish-American Diamond District jeweler who has to manage his gambling problem, along with a potential lucrative business opportunity. At just over two hours, it’s an intense ride that garnered quite a bit of praise for Sandler’s lead role.

A Double Dose of Bruce Wayne  (Hulu, May 1)

Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na, Batman! What’s better than a single dose of the caped crusader’s antics?

How about a good ol’ fashion, back-to-back bat-athon? With both “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight” hitting Hulu on May 1, you’ll be able to make it ⅔ of the way through Nolan’s acclaimed Batman trilogy. So, don your cape and cowl, and get ready to step into the night.

“Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian” (Disney+, May 4)

Looking for a way to celebrate May 4 this year? With the docuseries “Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian,” you’ll  get a sneak peak behind the curtain and see how the folks at Disney put together last year’s hit live-action “Star Wars” TV series. New episodes will follow the initial release every Friday on Disney+, helping you keep the Force with you all month long.

Oh, and we mentioned this last month, but “The Clone Wars” series finale also airs on May 4. That’s a lot of “Star Wars” to celebrate with!

Double Wonka Trouble  (Netflix, May 1)

Get that sweet tooth ready, because both “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and “Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory” are hitting Netflix at the start of the month.

You’ve got the time, so a double feature of both films will give you and the kids quite the sugar rush -- as well as being a great starting point to discuss the two different adaptations of the classic children’s story.

A w(HBO)le bunch of stuff (May 27)

It’s not everyday that a whole new streaming service launches, and on May 27, HBO Max is wading into the waters of the streaming war.

What can you expect from HBO Max on launch day? A whole bunch of stuff! Shows like “Doctor Who,” “The Big Bang Theory,” “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” “Rick and Morty,” and even “Sesame Street.”

Movie fans have a lot to get excited about, too: “The Lord of the Rings,” “Casablanca,” “Citizen Kane,” and several of Hayao Miyazaki’s wonderfully animated Studio Ghibli films will all be launching along with the service, as well.

Not bad for the month of May, eh? We might be going on our second month of life being up in the air, but at least there are a lot of shows and movies we can sit down and spend time with.

And, as always, if you are looking for a new TV to help those movies and shows really pop and look better than ever, give us a call! We’re still here to help you with all of your electronics needs.
